Privacy policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Summary
- Your files are processed in your browser and are never uploaded to our servers or to anyone else. The same goes for the passwords and signatures you enter.
- We don’t ask for an account, a name or an email address to use the tools.
- We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies at the moment. We plan to show ads in the future; before that starts, we will update this page and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.
Who we are
PDF4U (pdf4u.com) provides free PDF tools that run in your web browser. For any question about this policy, contact us at contact@pdf4u.com.
Files you process
When you choose a file, your browser reads it directly from your device. All processing – merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing, adding or removing passwords – happens in your browser’s memory. The finished file is created on your device and saved by your browser when you click Download. We never receive, see or store your files, their names, or the passwords and signatures you enter. When you close or reload the page, they are gone from the page’s memory.
Our pages use a strict Content Security Policy that only allows them to load files from our own website and blocks scripts from sending data to any other website.
Data stored in your browser
We store a few small preferences in your browser’s local storage, such as your light or dark theme and whether you closed the language suggestion. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.
Server logs and security
Like every website, our hosting provider receives standard technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. It is used only to deliver the site and protect it from abuse and attacks, and it never includes your files. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary security cookies for the same purpose.
Advertising (planned)
To keep PDF4U free, we plan to show ads from Google AdSense or a similar advertising partner. Ads will appear in marked areas next to the tools, never inside the area where you add files. When ads are enabled:
- the advertising partner and its vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance and prevent fraud – and, if you allow it, to personalise ads based on your visits to this and other websites;
- in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and other places where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent through a consent banner before personalised ads or non-essential cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time;
- you can manage personalised Google ads at adssettings.google.com, and find more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites;
- advertising partners are never given your files, file names, passwords or signatures.
This section will be updated with the exact partners and cookies before the first ad is shown.
Children
The tools are not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live – for example under the GDPR in Europe, India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, Thailand’s PDPA, Indonesia’s PDP Law or Brazil’s LGPD – you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to its use and to withdraw consent. Because the tools don’t collect personal data, there is usually nothing for us to access or delete, but you can always contact us at contact@pdf4u.com.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Important changes, such as the start of advertising, will be described here before they take effect.
